From Dirty to Stunning: How We Brought This Wood Garage Doors Back to Life! — A Project by Mansfield Handyman Services

  • Project Investment: $500 – $650
  • Project Location: Mansfield, TX
  • Products Used: Experts Stain & Seal Wood Cleaner, Wood Brightener, and Stain in color Chestnut.

Hey neighbors in Mansfield and Arlington, Texas!
We wanted to share one of our favorite recent projects—cleaning and staining a beautiful set of real wood garage doors. These doors were looking old, gray, and dirty. But with a little love, some good products, and elbow grease, we made them shine again!

The Problem: Gray, Dirty Wood

These garage doors were once a beautiful part of this home. But over time, dirt, mildew, and sun had taken a toll. The bottom of the doors was almost black, and the rich wood color was gone. The doors looked dull, tired, and dried out.

The homeowner called us and asked, “Can you make these look new again?”

Our answer: Absolutely!

Step 1: Cleaning with Expert Stain & Seal Products

We started by giving the doors a deep clean using Expert Stain & Seal Wood Cleaner. This is a product made just for wood fences, decks, and garage doors. It lifts the dirt, grime, mildew, and some of the old stain right off the surface without hurting the wood.

We sprayed the cleaner on and let it sit for a little while, then used low-pressure water to rinse everything off. This is important: we never use high pressure on wood because it can damage the surface.

After cleaning, we used Expert Stain & Seal Brightener to neutralize the pH of the wood and bring the color back to life. This step also helps the wood absorb the new stain evenly.

Once the wood dried completely, it already looked a hundred times better. But we weren’t done yet!

Step 3: Staining with Expert Stain & Seal Oil-Based Stain — Chestnut Color

Now for the fun part—staining!
We used Expert Stain & Seal Oil-Based Stain in the color Chestnut. This is a rich, warm brown that brings out the beauty of natural wood grain. It’s oil-based, which means it soaks deep into the wood and protects it from sun, rain, and more.

We brushed and rolled the stain carefully onto every panel and board. We made sure to get even coverage, without puddles or runs. The oil-based stain gave the wood a rich, warm glow and really highlighted the grain patterns.

After we finished staining, we let the doors dry and cure fully. The final result? A beautiful, bold, and protected garage door that looks better than new!

Why We Use Expert Stain & Seal Products

We love using Expert Stain & Seal because:

  • It’s made in the USA
  • It’s safe for pets, plants, and people
  • It’s designed to last in hot, sunny climates like Texas
  • It brings wood back to life!

This stain doesn’t just look good—it protects the wood from UV rays, rain, and mildew. That means it helps the wood last longer and stay stronger.

Before and After: The Proof is in the Picture!

Take a look at the photo above. You’ll see the bottom left was the “Before”—gray, black, and dirty.

The bottom right was after we cleaned the doors. You can already see the natural wood showing through!

And the top image shows the final result after we stained them with Chestnut. The doors now pop with warm color and show off that classic barn-style look.
